WHY AWS ML ENGINEERING?

Move machine learning into operation.

A model performs well during evaluation, then deteriorates as incoming data changes. The team must decide what to investigate and change while keeping predictions available to a dependent application.

ML engineering connects data preparation, model development, deployment, and operation. Following that lifecycle helps you locate a problem, compare corrective actions, and consider the security and cost consequences.

The AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate credential validates ML engineering knowledge on AWS. Preparing for an engineering assessment helps organize your understanding and uncover weak reasoning across the model’s operational lifecycle.

Trace a decline in predictions

Follow changed predictions back through the lifecycle before assuming that retraining is the right first response to declining performance.

Match delivery to application needs

Explain why a deployment approach fits the application’s response needs, workload patterns, and the team’s available operating capacity.

Make a model change reviewable

Identify the evidence needed to compare a model update with the existing version before changing a dependable production service.

Connect engineering choices to ownership

Clarify who must act when data, model behavior, or infrastructure changes, making responsibility visible before a problem escalates.

EXAM & PRACTICE

Prepare for the MLA-C01 exam.

This independent course covers MLA-C01. AWS ends English delivery of that version on September 28, 2026, and begins the MLA-C02 beta on September 29. This course does not claim MLA-C02 preparation.

Use the practice scenarios to rehearse lifecycle decisions and investigate gaps in your reasoning. Compare your planned examination with the official transition guidance, then review the explanation behind each choice within the retained MLA-C01 scope.

What you’ll practice

Coverage follows data preparation, model development, deployment, and monitoring, including storage and feature choices, training and evaluation, inference options, automation, drift, security, and cost. The emphasis is reliable implementation across the ML lifecycle.

Is this the right fit?

For candidates following a confirmed MLA-C01 route and ML, data, or cloud practitioners reviewing that scope. You should already have a grounding in machine learning and relevant AWS services. Choose C02-specific resources for a C02 appointment; this course is not a hands-on implementation program or a complete introduction to ML.

A sample of the reasoning

A churn model performs unusually well offline but poorly in production. One training feature records whether the retention team contacted a customer after the prediction would have been made. What should the engineer investigate first?

Choose an option to reveal the reasoning.

Answer and distractor analysis

Best answer: A. A addresses the mismatch between what historical training data contains and what a live prediction can know. The later retention contact can leak information into evaluation. Endpoint capacity and encryption do not explain that temporal mismatch. More tuning may make the misleading offline result more convincing without repairing the data boundary.
